1942

TANE was founded in 1942 by Sergio and Natalia Leites, from France. Art collectors, they arrived in Mexico after fleeing Paris during World War II. They settled in the Zona Rosa where they opened a leather products boutique, or a tannerie (saddlery shop in French), from which the name TANE comes.

Giving a twist to their manufacturing, they began to work with local goldsmiths to create the details of their bags and accessories, beginning their relationship with the country's silver.

1950

It was in 1953, when TANE moved to Antwerp Street in Colonia Juarez, and began its turn towards jewelry design, especially inspired by pieces of pre-Columbian art. The silver house thus begins its legacy in jewelry, focused on the work of silver, exalting one of the most iconic elements of the country.

1960

In this decade, Colonia Juarez becomes a cultural center when several artists and intellectuals move to the area. TANE becomes a reference for contemporary design and is visited by historical figures such as María Felix, Oscar de la Renta, the princes of Asturias, among many others. In 1961, inspired by the palenques cockfight, the TANE Roosters were created, metalwork pieces made by hand in silver, yellow gold vermeil and rose gold vermeil, with ruby eyes, which would transform in icons of the brand to this day.

1970

Alquimística is founded, the workshop that to this day produces the pieces of the jewelry house.

TANE is approached by Russell Marker, who was interested in creating reproductions of the great 18th century French goldsmith Thomas Germain, with pieces from the French period known as le Triomphe du Rocaille. Marker provided photographic studies of the pieces obtained directly from the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris and the Louvre to recreate these pieces. In this way, TANE masters become experts in new processes such as chiseling, embossing and forging, to recreate pieces with the highest technical detail.

In 1974 the fusion between art and silver begins. Led by Pedro Leites, son of the founders, Object Art pieces began to be developed together with the most important actors in the world of design — a tradition that continues to this day. Some of the artists with whom TANE has collaborated in recent decades are: Mathias Goeritz, Leonora Carrington, Gunther Gerzso, Luis Barragán, Manuel Felguerez, Juan Soriano, Ricardo Regazzoni, Sergio Hernández, Marina Láscaris and Javier Marin, Francisco Toledo, Xawery Wolski, Jorge Marin, Yvonne Domenge and many others.

1980

For TANE, the teaching and dissemination of the trade begins to be a central axis: thus, the first TANE school emerged in Michoacán, Mexico, which would transform two years later into the brand's second workshop, which it operates to this day. .

In the mid-80s, the second TANE school was founded in Zacatecas, which lasted very successfully for more than ten years.

A new design style begins at TANE, which moves away from the baroque to tend toward simplification and purity of lines.

1990

On a reconnaissance trip to France, it is discovered that the silversmithing trade was not established. TANE offers the French ambassador to found a school in Ploërmel in Bretagne. Currently the school is still in operation, and visits by French goldsmiths to Mexico are made to exchange learning.

The chains and links of TANE, part of the brand's heritage since its inception, are established in the world of design and fashion in Mexico.

2010

TANE joins the BAL group, and begins its expansion with stores throughout the Republic.

In 2012, for the 70th anniversary of the brand, a limited and numbered edition of feathers made of silver and vermeil inspired by the texture of the TANE Roosters was created.

In this decade, international collaborations began to develop in jewelry collections: the first, in 2016, with the help of a legendary fashion icon: Iris Apfel. The second, in 2018, with Pantone, with which a collection inspired by the symmetry of color value scales is created.

2019

During 2019 the company has presented some of its most successful collections in its history, including México Mi Amor – a tribute to the country's icons – and Dalia by TANE, a collection that immortalizes the National Flower of Mexico.

In addition, for the first time, a collaboration is carried out with the best tequila brand: together with Casa Dragones – the two brands that have been responsible for protecting the country's artisanal processes – on September 16 they presented an exclusive TANE x Casa Dragones trunk limited and numbered edition of 16 pieces, to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. It turns out to be the beginning of a series of highly successful collaborations with various national and international brands in the world of luxury.

In order to continue exploring new territories, it is the year in which national e-commerce is launched through www.tane.mx, becoming one of the first luxury brands to develop in the digital world in Mexico.

Last but not least, TANE launches the concept of El Atelier de TANE, inside a classic 1971 Airstream Landyacht, completely customized by the brand, thus creating the first luxury Pop-Up in Mexico.

2020

2020 turned out to be a challenging year for the world, and also for TANE, but despite the global COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to shine as always.

Always revaluing the brand's heritage, while seeking to continually innovate, TANE launches another highly successful collection: Animales por TANE, as well as a series of new collaborations with the presentations of TANE x Casa Dragones, TANE x Las Garrafas and TANE x Rivero González.

During this year, TANE also introduces a completely new store concept, renovating the first boutiques, with others to follow, creating a new brand image and a contemporary experience for its customers.

This unprecedented year is also marked by the launch of www.tane.com, making TANE available for the first time throughout the United States of America — the first step toward the brand's global expansion.

2021

TANE makes its international debut at Couture Las Vegas, one of the most important high-end jewelry fairs in the world, and immediately wins the Couture Design Award. TANE México 1942 becomes the first Latin American brand to be a certified member of the Responsible Jewelery Council.
